questions and answers
What is the best training potty chair on the market for little boys? We have a First Years one that hurts my son's leg and he has trouble getting the potty in the potty chair.

marnonyahoo replied: "Baby Bjorn potty chairs are the best for boys. They are sturdy, have plenty of leg room, and a splash guard that does not come off easily. Here is one When you’re ready to move him to the toilet, this is a great stool! Happy training!"

sara76c replied: "I know this won’t answer your question, but I didn’t use a potty… I got mine the elmo seat cover for the big toilette. If he likes it, don’t spend your money on smoothing that he will out grow"

If your 2 year old used a potty chair, when did you start with the potty seat instead? My son has always had the option of using the seat that fits on the toilet or his potty chair and has always chosen his potty chair. I didn't push one over the other, only encouraged him to use what he preferred (in hopes of succeeding in potty training). I've never gagged from changing a diaper or pull up but I'm having a hard time cleaning his potty tray when he's finished (maybe the pregnant nose?). I want to introduce him to the seat on the toilet and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions, tips, or advice? Also, when did your boy start standing to pee? (He's 2 years and 8 months old and completely potty trained... if the potty chair counts, lol.)

Kate M replied: "does he get a chance to see your husband pee ? does he have a male influence in the household maybe he could take him to the bathroom with him and show him that big boys stand to pee . I myself thought the potty chair was better . good luck ."

tracie replied: "The potty chair counts for sure! lol I turned my son around backwards to potty on the toilet seat because 1, he thought it was cool for some reason, and 2, because he could hold on better and not fall in, lol. If he is having a hard time getting motivated to go #1, try dropping a couple cheerios in the toilet and letting him "aim" for them. If he is having a hard time going #2 he might need something sturdy to place is feet on, so try putting a stool in front of the toilet for him to (push) on. Sorry that is so graphic but it really does help. (and is probably one of the reasons your son prefers the potty chair, as his feet can touch the ground) Good luck with the training, there is light at the end of the tunnel, I promise!! =]"

ticktock replied: "My daughter actually prefers the big potty over her little potty chair. I would suggest getting one of those cushions with handles to fit on the big potty and also get a step stool. The handles and step stool make it much easier for them to get up on the potty themselves so that you're not always lifting them up yourself. I don't have a son, but from what I've read, to get them to pee standing up, put cheerios or something flushable in the toilet and have him try and "aim" at them. I've read that it works."

LV2TEACH replied: "Hi Nina, My son wanted so badly to copy Daddy and Papa and the fact that they peed standing up that the potty seat didn't last too long. He started this quite early (around 2 1/2 years of age), but pooping never happened on the toilet until he was 3 years old. He never wanted to poop on the potty chair...just wanted that security of the diaper. After bribes and begging, he finally pooped on Father's Day last year in the toilet! What a gift for my husband! Haha! Since then, it's been smooth sailing with using the regular toilet. I'm not sure on how to suggest the potty seat versus the chair, but what if the chair mysteriously disappeared? Would your little guy get thrown off by that? Would it encourage him then to use the potty seat on the toilet? Good luck on whatever you decide to do! Potty training has been probably one of the most challenging obstacles yet!"

Kate replied: "I started with my son standing to pee, believing that it speeds things along. I don't think it is ever too early or too late to switch. My son used The Potty Stool, which let him get to the toilet safely without touching it. This stool makes every toilet kid-sized. And he had no problems standing to pee with this stool. My kids were excited about using the toilet and that helped them progress rapidly in potty training. The best part is kids use it for years. Hope this helps."

I am looking to get potty chair pots ( bowls) and deflectors for a homemade potty chair.? I am making a childrens potty chair and am looking to buy deflectors and potty chair bowls for it. any idea where i can order them? preferably wholesale. I plan to make many more

Deblieux replied: "You can buy them for less on a finished product than as individual items. This will not be a profitable venture, and furthermore, the use of this product will naturally lead to earlier deterioration. Put your heirloom quality efforts into something that will endure and be passed on."

Where can I find a potty chair with detachable tray? I'm looking for a reasonably priced potty chair with a tray. I thought it would be simple to find but I can't seem to find one anywhere. Any help finding one would be greatly appreciated!

Potty chair...? My baby just turned 6 months old and she uses the potty to poop (sometimes pee!). She dosen't like to go in her pamper. I have a potty that has a hard plastic seat but Iam looking for one that has a cushy seat. I have one for the big toilet that is cushy but it is too big for her... Thanks Nik

euphoriarevelation replied: "go to Good luck to you."

sanctusvacca replied: "wow! that is great that she started so soon. have you checked wal-mart, target, k-mart... one of them should have one..."

totspotathome replied: "http://www.pottytrainingsolutions.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=161&WCSESSID=dd220b6636547c2064df4fe2c4a4f97b These are about the smallest they make. Basically they don't make any smaller because it's rare to find a child that small using one. Good luck :)"

When did you introduce your son to the potty chair? My son is 18mo and I bought him a potty chair to sit on before a bath. He always urinates in the tub. I mainly bought just to show him what it is. He will sit on it and read books. When did you son get a potty seat?

roseandron57 replied: "My son was potty trained at 15 months."

3 under 3 replied: "my eldest son is nearly 3 and hated a potty chair.I have been training him for 8 weeks now(he is doing so good!,even dry underpants at night!)I just used a seat on the the toilet. My youngest son 20 months, refuses the potty chair too and wants to sit on the toilet like his big brother. good luck it is hard work!"

Brenda S replied: "I think two is the perfect age for a boy I've heard alot of people saying boys are alot easier to potty train then girls"

stacey l replied: "Your on the right track..they say u r suposed to let them sit on the seat and let them get used to it so they get a feel of it and it gives them a little control and not the whole pressuring of the potty training thing. So thumbs up to u! I let my soon do this around the same age and it started using the potty all on his own and was completely pottied trained at 25 months( including through the nights). When he does get used to it he may want to actually have the potty chair that fits right on the toilet seat (mine did) which makes them feel like he a Big boy! Each child is different and will do it when they ready......and may have their own preference on which type of seat they will like."

Kate replied: "I just potty trained my son and daughter. What worked for me was The Potty Stool I started by just setting it at the toilet. My kids immediately climbed up on the stool and discovered that they could safely use the toilet. This got them very interested in using the toilet and they were potty trained very quickly. My daughter was trained at two and my son at two and a half. It really helps boys to pee standing up so they can see what is happening and connect the sensations. The Potty Stool lets boys pee standing right into the toilet with no mess. I like that I don't have to double the steps of potty training by training them first in a potty and then training them to stop using a potty. And not dumping and cleaning a potty each time is great. The best thing is that kids use it for years. I hope this helps you."

Potty chair or a potty seat on the big potty? Which one worked the best for potty training your toddler? Im just curious to know. Right now we have a potty chair and he doesn't care for it to much. Does the potty seat the goes onto the big potty work any better?

Scooter_will_get_better replied: "Try the potty seat with the big potty. Maybe that will work. Have patience. He will soon be using it when u least expected. Good luck. :)"

Lexxy replied: "My son loves the potty seat that goes on our toilet--we got a cushioned one, and a little stool so he can reach the potty on his own. We also had to teach him to "push it down" so he didn't pee over the seat :p It heard getting the seats with the little pee cups can hurt them if they sit up or down on it wrong. It's a lit easier to clean as well--you just flush! Plus my son is so proud that he pees where mommy and daddy go. I would try it!"

ladonnabrik replied: "We went through everything with my son. I didn't think he would ever get potty trained. What we did was taught him to stand up. After many hours of the potty chair and the seat cushion, I was so surprised when he caught on to this so quickly. Try using a step stool so he can stand up there and help him point. Then eventually it will come natural for him. This took us about 2 days before he was going without us even knowing it. But all kids are different."

CHERRY replied: "potty chair mor confotable it seems like it would be"

SheilaB replied: "I have used both with mine. My first two used the big potty but my last used the little potty. I didn't see much difference really. they done fine with what they used. I did think it would be hard to get her to use the big potty after using the little one but one day she informed me that she uses the big potty now. But we keep the little potty by the big potty in case somebody is on the big potty and she really needs to go."

})i({ J and D's Momma replied: "I think the potty chair is best. That way it cound be in the room wherever we were. Our son used it for a little bit of time only before he just plain used the big potty."

Zoey replied: "Every child is different with this. I have 3 boys - my two oldest didn't want either, they wanted to sit on the "big potty" without the little seat on it. My youngest is 2, not completely potty trained yet but seems to be more fond of having his own potty chair."

The Masked Marauder replied: "not really sure...last time i had to potty train a child was about 12 years ago and ive slept since then LOL"

Kevin C replied: "None of my kids like the seat for the big chair. Try reading to him while he is sitting on it. Best thing we have found is to just take the kid in the bathroom with you when you have to go. Bring one of his favorite books with you and read to him while you are going and he is sitting on his potty chair."

Aim replied: "Just last night I tried putting the seat on the big toilet (vs. keeping it on the little potty chair) and my daughter went both 1 and 2 on it for the first time. She loves sitting on the potty chair but only playing around. When it's go-time she seems to take better to the toilet...probably because she sees me using it all of the time. I'm cool with that! It was great. We had a little potty party."

don_steele54 replied: "Which ever fit in the bathroom best."

Slipped Away replied: "Since you have a boy please watch this video before using a seat on the big potty. I checked my sons seat to make sure that nothing could hurt him after I watched that video. We use the potty seat for #2 and he stands on the stool and does #1 like his dad. I would recommend the potty seat after you check it."

gracie replied: "We've done both. Potty chair is so convenient because you can put it anywhere. Con is that you have to deal with the stuff and flush it down the toilet. Then had to rinse the bowl. My husband got tired of that quick. Potty seat on big potty is great. Just have some fun stuff for your child to do in the bathroom. Also, this gets them used to having to use a big person potty."

jimi4950 replied: "YES! A child will Micmac you by example!"

What is the best kind of potty chair to get for training? looking for a good potty chair.

Elaura replied: "Take the child with you and let him/her pick it out so he/she will be excited about using it. Keep in mind that the child will probably only use the potty chair for a month before transitioning to the big toilet."

SSimmons replied: "I got one that has three steps to it. It's the my first steps brand. It goes from a regular training chair, then it comes apart and attaches to your regular toilet and it is also a step-stool. My two year old uses it a lot. and once she get a better hang of going to the potty then we can up grade to the toilet."

Amanda replied: "Something simple. I had a friend who bought one that looked like a dump truck. Her son not only went potty in the the potty chair but also on his toys because he couldn't it was hard for him to tell the difference."

Melanie replied: "Let you child pick out the potty chair, but for reference here is a site with some really unique potty chairs that children will really enjoy."

Which is better for potty training? a potty chair or a ring for a toilet? She doesn't seem comfortable with height of the toilet. She wants me to hang on to her even though I have a stool in front of the toilet. I think it would be harder for her however to transfer to the normal toilet from the potty chair. Thanks for the suggestions!

FeatherHead replied: "Potty chair...the toilet is too high and scary...."

What's with you people? replied: "toilet please. What is wrong with helping your child unless you are lazy."

EastCoastBabyGurl replied: "My son liked the idea of the ring that goes on the toilet. Made him feel like a "big boy". However if your daughter is showing fear towards the toilet, I would go with the potty chair for now and slowly try to introduce the toilet to her. I'm sure it will come in time. Reward systems also work great. I used a sticker chart and let my son pick out the stickers. Works like a charm! Good luck!"

Hanna's Mommie replied: "Every child is differant, The kid toilet seats on the ground my daughter just plays with and thinks its a toy, but the ring on the toilet i just sit her on it and she pees for me right away, she will even go play with the handle to try and flush it. so every kid is differant. I know lots of kids afraid of the big toilet cause its loud and they think they will get sucked in or something silly. just try whichever one you think your daughter will feel comfortable with"

LIDIA M replied: "toilet ring. although every kid is different i think is better and less the work if you get them used to the toilet."

Alyssa :) replied: "potty chair...because think of it if you were like 3 yrs old would you wanna pody on something thats like 5 times your size :) good luck"

hz replied: "try the potty ring and buy one with the cartoon characters she likes, maybe you can let her choose which one she wants...maybe this way she will be less afraid...good luck"

Haydeekidd replied: "My daughter started potty training at 19 months and to her the toilet was HUGE, even with a stool she couldn't get onto the seat herself. That being said I didn't have the room for a potty and I thought it made more sense to use a potty seat. We had to help her get on, but having a potty seat that had side handles really helped her to feel comfortable and stable on such a big toilet. It wasn't long before she was big enough to get off and on by herself (with a stool of course). Also, they have to get use to a big toilet when they go out in public...unless you plan on bringing a potty chair with you everywhere! lol We have a potty seat that folds up that we bring with us...very handy."

Kimber replied: "My vote is both! We have a little potty, a potty chair and teh ring for the toilet. I think kids like choosing and having some control. The toilet might be scary now, so she'll use the chair, and then later on move to the ring. Good Luck :)"

Gwen M replied: "The toilets would for sure be more convenient, but when you're potty training a toddler, you have to reinforce your child positively even if she did just a few drops of pee in it, but how are you going to notice the few drops in a toilet bowl full with a gallon of water? You would never even notice it, and your toddler won't feel rewarded, which would be a pity. I'm in the middle of potty training my 2 year old right now, and I let her sit on the potty, not the toilet bowl."

Abby replied: "HI, i just saw that BUMBO makes a potty seat now. It looks like it goes right on top of the toilet, but the sides looked higher, so maybe she wouldn't feel like she was going to fall. I'd check it out, i saw it at target, and definately would have bought it if i had a child who was potty training. I have a 5 year old, and we always just used the cushiony (sp?) ones that go on top of th toilet. The potty chair was too messy for me lol Good luck!"

joolie replied: "We use a ring for the toilet along with a step stool. Make sure that the ring fits well because if it wobbles around, it might be scary."

how do u get a 3 yr old boy who is scared to poop in the potty chair? im a ft nanny and its getting frustratin? im a ft nanny for a 2yr old boy and 3 yr old boy, and the 3 yr old has the peeing thing down really great, but hes scared to poop in th potty chair or toilet. do i keep pushing or do i back off and give him room to do it himself? should i put him back in diapers?

mylovekate03 replied: "spank him tell him he has to"

Erin replied: "maybe try the big potty, mny not even 2 year old uses the big potty more then her own potty(she likes to watch everything swirl down the potty lol"

marty p replied: "Tell him the BoogyMan checks the potty twice a day, and goes looking for little boys who havent used it. Tell him you're his friend, and you just want him to know this, becasue the BoogyMan rang the doorbell the other day looking for him. Tell him he can make his own decisions about using the potty or not. "But if the BoogyMan gets you next time, its been nice knowin' ya." THAT should straighten his shit out, doncha think?"

S.E.P. replied: "Scaring him with stories of the boogie man or a fear of punishment will not make him eager to learn an exciting new skill, and even if it does make him use the potty (which it most likely won't), it'll be out of fear, so you're developing a fear of the potty, which is not going to help anyone. Try and find out what he's scared of. Is it losing a part of himself? Is it getting flushed away? Maybe a toilet training story will help (Look! Elmo's dolly did poos in the potty! Exciting stuff...). Or role-play with a favourite toy that 'tells you' that he wants to use the potty (and you could use water and raisins or something as teddy's poo and wee, which can be safely flushed away and rewarded with a bite of a favourite food or something). If he's consistently making a mess of jocks by refusing to use the potty, then yeah, put him back in diapers. Explain that if he can't use the potty like a big boy, then he'll have to use nappies like a baby. But stress that he can still use the potty for wees. We don't want regression. But, of course, leave it open ended. He can get back into jocks whenever he likes, so long as he uses the potty for poos. That gives him the choice. Good Luck!"

Wendy b replied: "One thing to consider I read about when mine were being trained by me, kids sometimes think that anything that comes out of their body is something that belongs in their body and it shouldn't be flushed away. I know it sounds crazy, but I have worked with kids all my life and we have to see it from their perspective. I read this in a parenting book. So maybe he thinks he is losing part of him ???"

sbf31 replied: "I used to have to bribe my little boy to sit on the potty by offering to read him his favorite books while he was on it. the story distracted him from the fear that he would fall in."

izkeshia replied: "Put the poop in th potty after he does it on the floor or in his pants. Sit him on the toilet and say poop only in the potty. Make it something that you say often. "poop only in the potty". Also you may want to have them walking around with no underpants on. When he starts to poop hurry to let him finish in the toilet. Hopefully he wil start to be more comfortable and understand that this is where the poop goes."
